Michigan State Football is poised to land 2022 QB commitment
While it’s not technically a flip at this point, Michigan State football essentially flipped three-star quarterback Katin Houser from Boise State.
There has been a flurry of quarterback commitments in the past week or so in the 2022 recruiting class. There was also a decommitment that played right into the hands of Michigan State football.
The Spartans have been among the teams searching for their quarterback in the 2022 class. In-state rival Michigan was right there too until it landed four-star Jayden Denegal earlier this week.
That was on the heels of the Wolverines missing out on Nate Johnson, who committed to Utah. Michigan State, like Michigan, was showing interest in a few different quarterbacks out West. One of those was four-star California commit Justyn Martin.
Martin visited the Michigan State campus and there seemed to be some possible momentum. Yet, Ole Miss has become a viable threat and as of right now, he’s still verbally committed to the Bears.
But the Spartans have also been recruiting Katin Houser, another California quarterback who was committed to Boise State until Thursday when he opened things up again.
It’s not a shock that this came one day prior to his visit to Michigan State football and a bunch of crystal ball projections came in for MSU including some locks, which is used when the confidence level is at its highest on the scale of 1-10.
Houser is also announcing his commitment (for a second time) on Sunday which is a very good sign for the Spartans.
What Houser’s commitment will mean for Spartans, 2022 recruiting
Houser is a high-ranking three-star recruit according to the 247 sports composite rankings for 2022 and he’s No. 396 overall.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder is ranked 27th among quarterbacks, and with no quarterbacks uncommitted in the top 30, at least before Houser re-opened his recruitment earlier this week, snagging one is a huge win for Mel Tucker and Michigan State football.
Michigan State offered back in April and it all worked out perfectly for the Spartans, who have lots of momentum on the trail right now.
As far as the quarterback carousel, it leaves Martin as the top available prospect. He received a crystal ball projection to flip to Ole Miss but there hasn’t been any beyond that.
But at this point, if teams want a top quarterback in this class, they need to aim for flips as Michigan State successfully pulled off or find a diamond in the rough.
