Lincoln Riley is in the middle of piecing together a top 10 recruiting class for Oklahoma football in 2022 and yet he’s still close to kicking off the 2023 cycle with a bang.

The Sooners currently rank No. 8 in the 2022 team composite rankings with nine commits and an average rating of .9383 which is wildly impressive and yet Riley is focused on carrying that momentum over in 2023 before his current class is sewn up. That’s what championship-level coaches do.

Oklahoma does not have a single commitment in its 2023 class, but that could soon change as one of the top running backs in the cycle looks to be trending heavily toward the Sooners after narrowing his list down to three schools and revealing a July 17 commitment date.

Oklahoma, Ohio State, and Georgia are five-star Treyaun Webb’s finalists and he moved his decision date up about a month and crystal balls have been pouring in for the Sooners on Sunday afternoon.

All three of the predictions from recruiting experts and insiders on 247Sports have Webb committing to Oklahoma although the confidence level for those picks is an average of six.

Still, this is a good sign for the Sooners who have been working hard on the Jacksonville, Fla., native.

Oklahoma football’s 2023 class is going to be special

If the Sooners do land Webb which looks likely at this point, the 2023 class is going to be kicked off by a heck of a player and this may only be the start of a potential top-five group.

Oklahoma is also looking really good with the nation’s No. 2 quarterback and No. 4 overall player, Malachi Nelson, as well as the No. 1 receiver in the 2023 class, Brandon Inniss. Landing all three will give Oklahoma arguably the best running back/quarterback/receiver combo in 2023.

The Sooners are also in good standing with five-stars Richard Young (running back), Makai Lemon (athlete), and DeAndre Moore Jr. (receiver).

This could end up being an Alabama-type class for Oklahoma.
