Florida State football: McKenzie Milton is just who Seminoles’ rebuild needed
Believe it or not, there are people who believe that Jordan Travis should be Florida State football’s Week 1 starter over McKenzie Milton. I’m not knocking Travis, but Milton is a special talent.
Following a gruesome leg injury back in November of 2018, many believed Milton’s football career was over. He would miss the following season and then the job was Dillon Gabriel’s even when Milton was cleared to return. His successor was just as prolific a passer as him and winning that job back seemed to be out of the question.
So he decided to transfer and look for a fresh start.
Putting that horrific injury behind him, Milton decided to head down the road and enroll at Florida State to finish up his playing career. It was a long road back and he hasn’t played a game in almost three years, but Mike Norvell hadn’t forgotten what type of player he was at UCF.
Milton had 8,683 yards and 72 touchdown passes with a completion rate of 62 percent in just three seasons with the Knights. He also rushed for 1,078 yards and 20 more scores.
So now do you see why I think it’s wild that Travis is getting the green light from some fans over Milton?
Milton will take Florida State football to that next step
Florida State is in the middle of a rebuild right now and that’s taken place ever since the final season of Jimbo Fisher in Tallahassee.
Since Fisher left, the Seminoles are just 16-20 and have gone through two interim stints from Odell Haggins and a 1.5-year disappointing stretch from Willie Taggart. Now the program is hoping Norvell can return Florida State to its previous national title level.
Milton is going to help with that.
Quarterback has been the biggest issue for Florida State since Fisher left, along with some other things, and the Seminoles’ offense has just been mediocre, at best. Milton is going to immediately fix that position.
The Seminoles need to make a bowl this season to get things trending in the right direction and Milton is the right guy for the job.
