Miami was close to having a special season in 2020 but a blowout loss to North Carolina in the season finale as well as a Cheez-It Bowl defeat turned an 8-1 start into an 8-3 finish.

The Hurricanes looked like playoff contenders for about a month and then Clemson brought them back down to earth. They rebounded by winning five straight games and a win over North Carolina may have sent them to the ACC title game for a rematch with the Tigers, but Notre Dame’s temporary existence in the conference muddied those plans.

An 0-2 finish after an 8-1 start was disappointing, but the Hurricanes have to be the favorites to win the ACC Coastal as they return 20 starters from last year’s playoff-contending squad.

One of the most important names? Cam’ron Harris, a junior running back who is coming off his best season with the Hurricanes which followed up a strong introductory year in 2019. He rushed for 643 yards and 10 touchdowns in 11 games, averaging 5.1 yards per touch.

And he’s just getting started.

With almost the entire starting offensive line returning, the Hurricanes should have plenty of holes open for the running backs like Harris, Donald Chaney Jr., and Jaylan Knighton. Harris is going to get the bulk of the carries and if he approaches 200 on the season, he should break the 1,000-yard mark, and then some.

My best guess is that he approaches 1,200-1,300 yards.

Miami football should have an electric offense

The Hurricanes ranked 32nd in total offense and 26th in scoring in 2020 and with 11 starters returning on that side of the ball, including D’Eriq King, Harris, and Mike Harley, the offense should explode and finish ranked in that top-10 range.

Manny Diaz has been under a microscope for two years and now that he has the most talent he’s ever had at Miami, expectations are going to be at an all-time high.

Harris is going to lead the backfield with over 1,000 yards and King will be in the Heisman conversation in his second year in this offense.
