Passing attack should be the strength of the Texas State offense

Last season, Texas State had one of the better passing attacks in the Sun Belt and I expect that to be the case once again.

The man leading the attack is quarterback Brady McBride and after cementing himself as the starter last season, McBride really took off and became one of the most underrated quarterbacks in the conference and passed for close to 2,000 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Spavital is known to be able to lead strong passing offenses and this might be the best one that Texas State has had since their move to Division-I football.

While the passing attack will get most of the headlines for the Texas State offense, the running game is not something that football fans should sleep on. The Bobcats return their top three rushers and all have the potential to be better in 2021. Brock Sturges will probably get the bulk of the carries as the starter, but guys like Calvin Hill and Jahmyl Jeter will get their opportunities and help make this a more balanced offense.

The receiving corps will be led by Marcell Barbee, who is one of the Sun Belt’s best receivers. Barbee had 40 catches and 10 touchdowns last season and as the unquestioned top receiver and more stability at the quarterback position, those numbers should be even better this season.

The rest of the receiving corps will consist of guys like Javen Banks and Travis Graham, who had some success last season but will assume bigger roles in 2021.

The offensive line will return four of their five starters and is hoping that their experience and cohesion together can improve the unit. This offense will be one of the best in the conference and with some stability at quarterback, Texas State should be a tough out each and every week because of this unit.
