Utah State was once a program that no coach wanted to go to.

When Gary Andersen arrived for his first stint with the Aggies, he showed that you can win in Logan and that success could be sustained because once he left to take the job at Wisconsin, Matt Wells stepped in and made a seamless transition to the head coaching job.

After Wells left for Texas Tech, the program decided to rehire Andersen and try to recapture the magic that the program had when it hired him at the start of the decade.

Long story short, Andersen flamed out and left the program after they started 0-3 and Utah State was left to find a new head coach to lead its football program.

A new era of Utah State football

Most college football analysts have agreed that Utah State knocked their hire out of the park when they landed Blake Anderson from Arkansas State.

Anderson built the program at Arkansas State and they were contending for the Sun Belt title year in and year out. Anderson is known to have very good offenses and that is something that Utah State fans are used to and expect every year.

Utah State is hoping that the last two years are just an aberration and that the program is closer to the high-level years under Andersen and Wells than the last couple of seasons.

There is experience on the roster and having to play only one Power Five opponent on the non-conference schedule is a big plus. While I don’t expect them to overtake Boise State or Nevada for the conference title, Anderson should have this team back to being competitive in every game and that would be a good starting point for his tenure in Logan.
