South Florida Football: Bulls could be in for rough season in 2021
After a dreadful season in 2020, things do not look much better for South Florida Football in 2021.
2020 was a year to forget for South Florida Football. After firing head coach Charlie Strong, South Florida hired Clemson co-offensive coordinator Jeff Scott to be the head coach and he was hoping to reboot the program after Strong had a messy ending in 2019.
Scott still might be able to reboot USF, but it is probably going to take a lot longer than he realized. The Bulls were a really bad team for most of the 2020 season and because of a tough schedule and a lack of talent, it is going to be hard to seriously improve this season.
It was not long ago that USF was competing for conference championships and was one of the most consistent teams in the AAC. Some poor recruiting and coaching decisions have put the program where it is currently and it is unclear how long it is going to take for the team to get back to competing at a high level. Scott was hired away from Clemson because of his ability to recruit and he was thought to be one of the better offensive minds in college football.
USF looked competent at times on offense last season, but they just could not find any consistent quarterback play to be a threat every Saturday. With some transfers incoming and another year in the system, USF is hoping to at least be a competitive team this fall, even if it is not winning very many games.
The AAC is one of the tougher conferences in the country and South Florida football is going to play one of the tougher schedules in the conference. I think USF should be judged by their young talent and how they compete on Saturdays, not just the wins and losses because there is going to be plenty of losing this fall for South Florida.
