Georgia State Football: Experience leads the way for 2021 Panthers
Explosive passing attack leads the way for Georgia State football
After emerging from a four-way quarterback competition last fall, Cornelious Brown IV cemented himself as one of the top playmakers in the Sun Belt and finished second in the league in passing.
Following a solid debut season, the sky is the limit for Brown IV, but the No. 1 thing that he must do is cut down on the turnovers. Ten Interceptions in only 178 passing attempts is not ideal and that is something that is going to have to change. When you have a quarterback that threw for over 2,200 yards passing and over 300 yards rushing, you have to feel really good about your offense.
The running game is going to be solid as well. Look for Destin Coates to start at running back after being the third leading rusher in the Sun Belt last season, but this is going to be a deep position. Tucker Gregg was the second leading rusher on the team last season and he is going to be back in that role for 2021.
A guy to keep an eye on to get some carries is former South Carolina defensive back Jamyest Williams, who made the position switch last season and finished with 253 yards on only 27 carries.
The receiving corps is going to be one of the best in the Sun Belt. Second-team All-Sun Belt selection Sam Pinckney is back and he will be joined by honorable mention Cornelius McCoy on the other side. Those guys are not the only playmakers at receiver, however, and Terrance Dixon and tight end Roger Carter are also dangerous threats.
The offensive line returns all five starters and is going to be led by Shamarious Gilmore, who has been a first-team All-Sun Belt selection.
This has a chance to be a prolific offense.
