HBCU Football: Is 2021 the year the Howard Bison will shine?
It has been a rough go for the Howard Bison football team over the past 15 seasons only finishing two seasons with a record of .500 in that span. In the MEAC’s 50-year history, Howard has only won two conference titles and have not won a MEAC championship since 1993.
However, there are some promising signs that Howard could be on the rise in the new look MEAC conference especially since the MEAC conference will be lighter this season than in past years.
Most of the Bison’s talent comes on the defensive side with numerous young talent set to potentially have a breakout season.
Names to watch on the Bison defense includes sophomore defensive linemen Elton-Jean Baptiste, Deion Harry, Christian White, and Darrian Brokenburr alongside senior defensive lineman Aaron Walker.
Meanwhile, their secondary is headlined by sophomore defensive back Ray Williams as well as junior defensive backs Rodney Dennard and Jalen Smith.
While this team will go as far as their defense takes them, the offense will need to provide some resistance if they want to contend for a MEAC championship.
Let’s take a deeper dive into the Howard Bison football team and what it will take for them to become a contender.
