While it only played in four games last season, Kent State was electric in all of them and was a fun team to watch when it was on offense.

While the defense is still playing catch-up with the offense and future NFL draft pick Dustin Crum, Kent State is looking at potentially having one of their best teams in school history. But there is one big thing that could be getting in the way of the Golden Flashes and that is one of the most difficult schedules in the MAC.

This could be a really good football team, but the record might not necessarily reflect it.

Before Sean Lewis got to Kent State and led the program to a bowl win in 2019, the Golden Flashes had only been to a bowl game twice in its history as a program. After that bowl win in 2019, however, Lewis has this program on an upward trajectory and they should be making more bowl appearances in the future.

Kent State had three total winning seasons before Lewis arrived and now they have back-to-back winning seasons, even though the Golden Flashes played in only four games in 2020.

Kent State in 2020 was a team of polar opposites. The offense was high scoring, averaging nearly 50 points per game, but the defense gave up 38 points per game and featured one of the worst rushing defenses in the country.

If the offense could keep at the same pace and the defense makes even marginal improvements, the Golden Flashes could be contenders in the MAC. If not, it will be an uphill battle to make it to a bowl game.
