4-star LB Jaron Willis

Florida football has one linebacker committed in 2022 but that’s Shemar James and he’s versatile although might turn into more of an edge rusher. The Gators want someone who can play that three-down role too, which requires some coverage skills.

Shawn Murphy would have been a great candidate to fill that spot but it’s looking like Alabama has emerged as the favorite there. So, it could lead to a flip for the Gators who have already been pursuing Jaron Willis, a Georgia Tech commitment.

Willis is built at 6-foot-2, 228 pounds, but what makes him unique is that he can play safety and linebacker, which Florida has used in its pitch to Willis according to 247 sports (subscription required).

What helps is that Willis seems more open to a flip than most commits. He has a visit scheduled in September, which will occur during a game and the Swamp — when it’s loaded with fans.

That could be a strong selling point, especially if Georgia Tech struggles once again. Willis is ranked 157th overall and with his versatility, would be an ideal addition to the 2022 class.
