Georgia Tech Football: Can Yellow Jackets make progress in 2021?
After a couple of rebuilding years for Georgia Tech Football, what are the realistic expectations for a program that wants to get back to winning?
When Georgia Tech football fired Paul Johnson after the 2018 season, the Yellow Jackets knew that they were going to be in for a bit of a lengthy rebuild to get the program back to competing in the ACC.
The tricky question is, how long was the rebuild going to take? When Georgia Tech football hired Geoff Collins away from Temple, he brought energy to the program and on the recruiting trail and it seemed like he would be the right fit for the program.
Fast forward to year three under Collins and it might be time to expect some of that energy and recruiting to result in some wins.
Georgia Tech football is in the midst of a tricky rebuild. Year one in 2019 might as well have been a year zero because the program was transitioning from an option offense to a more “modern” offense and that was going to take time.
Year two, the Yellow Jackets had to deal with COVID and that made things even more complicated. All of that makes the expectations for the program hard to figure out for 2021, especially against what I might consider one of the toughest schedules in the entire country.
With all of that being said, there is some young talent, especially on offense, for Georgia Tech to work with this season. Quarterback Jeff Sims and running back Jahmyr Gibbs have big-time potential and should be even better this season, especially if Sims can find a way to cut down on the turnovers.
The Yellow Jackets are going to be one of the most fascinating teams to watch this season and could be better than you would expect.
