HBCU Football: SWAC announces preseason all-conference teams

In preparation for the upcoming 2021 season, the SWAC has announced its preseason all-conference teams as well as its predictions of league standings and individual player awards.

Headlining the preseason All-SWAC offense is reigning HBCU Football Player of the Year Aqeel Glass quarterback for Alabama A&M. He was also chosen as the preseason SWAC Offensive Player of the Year.

Meanwhile on the defensive side, reigning Buck Buchanan award winner Jordan Lewis from Southern University has been chosen the preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

The Southern Jaguars have the most players featured on the preseason All-SWAC first-team with nine players selected in total including six players on the offensive first-team and three players on the defensive first-team. In all, they have 10 players selected with one being named to the defensive second-team.

SWAC championship runner-up Arkansas-Pine Bluff has the most player selections in total with 11 making the cut. It, along with Alabama State, is the only team with a player on the first and second-team for special teams.

While the new additions to the conference Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman each did not have any players selected to the preseason All-SWAC first team, FAMU did have three second-team selections with two coming on the defensive side.

The reigning SWAC champion Alabama A&M Bulldogs were picked to win the SWAC East while the 2019 champion Alcorn State Braves were picked to win the SWAC West. While A&M had eight players total selected to the preseason teams, the Braves did not have a single player selected to either team primarily as a result of opting out of spring season.
