Wyoming Football: Will Cowboys surprise Mountain West in 2021?
The Wyoming football team felt that it was developing into a consistently a threat in the Mountain West Conference. This past offseason, however, COVID-19 affected all College Football programs including the Cowboys from properly preparing for the 2020 season. To make matters worse for the Cowboys, they suffered through a series of unfortunate significant injuries.
The Cowboys played only six games last season as they accumulated an overall record of 2-4. Three of the four losses last season were by one possession. They had some big winnable games this past season, including a 37-34 overtime at Nevada and a 17-16 loss at New Mexico. This was their first losing season since the 2015 season when they accounted for a 2-10 overall record.
This upcoming season, eighth-year head coach Craig Bohl and his staff feel confident that the Cowboys can get back to their winning ways. They came a long way from their first two seasons when they accumulated a 6-18 overall record in coach Bohl’s first two years at Wyoming football. Since then, the Cowboys have been three postseason bowl games with two of them being victories.
The Cowboys feel confident that they will be in heavy contention for a postseason bowl appearance. They also feel they can become threats to the Boise State Broncos for the MWC Mountain Divisional title.
The key for the Cowboys, this season, is to remain healthy and utilize the star players they have on both sides of the ball. This season is a critical time for the Cowboys as the Broncos are undergoing a major coaching change.
