After a nearly undefeated season in 2020, Toledo Football is back to make another run at the MAC title

During the abbreviated 2020 season, Toledo Football was very close to an undefeated season and getting to go to another MAC title game under head coach Jason Candle. Candle has retooled this program and after a disappointing season in 2019, this program should be back to contending for conference championships.

There was a certain amount of pressure heading into last season for Candle and the Toledo program. After taking over for Matt Campbell, Candle led the Rockets to a MAC title and had one of the best seasons in school history in 2017, but the program slipped a little bit in the years following, going 7-6 in 2018 and 6-6 in 2019. They bounced back last season and looked like they were going to be getting back to being the program they were when Candle first arrived.

Historically as a program, Toledo has had success finding up and coming head coaches and seeing them succeed before they leave for bigger jobs. Toledo has had coaches like Nick Saban, Gary Pinkel, and Matt Campbell come through and raise the ceiling of this program and what Candle has done is no different.

The Rockets have raised the expectations of the program to where they expect to compete for conference championships every season, but the tricky part of when you get a program like Toledo to this level is being able to maintain this level of success.

The Rockets bring back 22 starters from a team that lost two games by a combined six points and they are looking to turn that close game luck around. The schedule is going to be headlined by two road games to Ball State and Central Michigan and if the Rockets win those two games, then lookout.
