The quarterback competition is the headliner for offense

The Toledo offense returns a lot of talent in the backfield, at the receiver position, and upfront on the offensive line. The one thing that the Rockets do not have any clarity on is the QB position and that is going to be the top question heading into the season.

The job was probably going to go to senior Eli Peters, but he opted to stop playing football in the spring. That has left the job wide open and sophomore Carter Bradley is going to be the favorite heading into fall camp due to his experience backing up Peters.

The other guys that are going to be in the competition are going to be Georgia Tech transfer Tucker Gleason, Dequan Finn, and Gavin Hall.

Whoever starts at quarterback is going to love handing off the ball to the backs in the backfield. Bryant Koback is returning for his junior season and he has had a very productive career so far in Toledo, rushing for over 2,600 yards and 30 touchdowns in his career. Last year’s second-leading rusher Micah Kelly also returns and he and Koback form a formidable one-two punch at running back.

The wide receiver position is going to be led by last year’s second-team All-MAC selection Isaiah Winstead, who finished the season with 25 catches for 429 yards and three touchdowns.

Winstead is not the only playmaking receiver on the team and look for guys like Bryce Mitchell and Danzel McKinley-Lewis to provide scoring opportunities for the Rockets this season.

The offensive line is going to be one of the MAC’s best this season. All-MAC center Bryce Harris is back, as well as former freshman All-American Nick Rosi at tackle. The line returns all five starters and will be looked to open up running lanes and protecting whoever starts at quarterback. If the QB situation gets settled, this offense will be tough to stop.
