Toledo Football returns all 11 starters on one of the best defenses in the MAC

Toledo has been known throughout the years under Matt Campbell and now under Jason Candle, to have very good and physical defenses. This might be one of Toledo’s best defenses.

Upfront, the Rockets line is going to be led by two-time All-MAC selection Jamal Hines, who has been one of the best pass rushers in the MAC the past couple of seasons. Hines will be joined by All-MAC defensive tackle Desjuan Johnson, who finished 2020 with 27 tackles, including eight for loss, and three sacks. Look for David Hood and Terrance Taylor to round out the group upfront, which will be one of the conference’s best.

The linebacking corps is going to be headlined by yet another All-MAC performer in Dyontae Johnson, who finished the season with 47 tackles in just six games. Johnson is going to be joined by Daniel Bolden, who had 21 tackles last season. Look for both linebackers to put up big numbers this season.

The secondary has two All-MAC performers in safeties Tycen Anderson and Saeed Holt and both players are looking to have even better seasons in 2021. Justin Clark and Samuel Womack are going to be the starters at corner and they both have ample amounts of experience.

This defense is primed to be one of the best in the MAC and it will keep them contending in the conference all season.
