Jackson State Football lands former 4-star from Tennessee
Jackson State football added another talented player in the transfer portal, adding a former 4-star recruit of Tennessee.
With the SWAC fall football season one month away, the conference adds more FBS talent as former Tennessee wide receiver Malachi Wideman is transferring to the Jackson State football program.
Wideman spent his high school career with Riverview High School in Sarasota, Florida, and Venice High School in his hometown of Venice, Florida. He was a multi-sport athlete playing football, basketball, and running track.
In his senior football season, Wideman recorded 65 receptions for 1,069 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns. He came out of high school as a four-star recruit by 24/7 Sports and Rivals.com with the former ranking him the 22nd best receiver in the entire 2020 recruit class.

Initially committing to sign with the Florida State Seminoles in May 2019, Wideman ultimately de-committed nine months later opting instead to sign with Tennessee instead.
Wideman played just one game with the Volunteers last season against the Missouri Tigers recording a reception for 24 yards.
Jackson State football continues to build on what has been an incredible offseason that has seen them field transfers from numerous FBS schools and signing their highest-rated recruit class in school history.
This transfer acquisition makes for the fifth wide receiver that has transferred to the Tigers in the past year. This is great news for a team who lost their leading wide receiver from the spring Daylen Baldwin after he transferred to the Michigan Wolverines.
The Tigers go into this season with lofty expectations for themselves as quarterback Shedeur Sanders says he expects his team to “dominate” this season.
In the SWAC’s predicted order of finish, they have Jackson State finishing third in the SWAC Eastern Division behind new SWAC addition Florida A&M Rattlers and the Alabama A&M Bulldogs.
Jackson State will open the 2021 fall season on September 5 when they face the aforementioned Florida A&M in the returning Orange Blossom Classic.
