What’s next?

The news hasn’t been all good this week for Penn State football as top-200 defensive end Tyreese Fearby, who committed earlier this month, decommitted. He’s ranked as the No. 12 edge rusher and is out of Pittsburgh.

The Panthers have already picked up a crystal ball projection for Fearby, who could be headed there, but still, the Nittany Lions have other options at edge rusher including DJ Wesolak, who left Penn State off his earlier list but is now taking a visit to Happy Valley according to 247 sports.

While that’s certainly promising for Penn State football, the Nittany Lions won’t be going long without adding a commitment in the 2022 class as more good news is expected this weekend.

Kevin Winston, a three-star defensive back out of Maryland, is set to decide this weekend and he’s trending with crystal ball projections to Penn State. He’s ranked 683rd overall, as well as the 13th-ranked player in Maryland and No. 45 safety according to the composite rankings.

Yet, 247 sports is much higher in its own rankings as Winston is the seventh-best player in Maryland and the 34th-ranked safety. Either way, it’s another solid addition, and Penn State has done an impressive job recruiting the DMV this cycle.

Penn State also got a new crystal ball prediction for four-star offensive lineman Antonio Tripp. He’s an interior prospect but ranks 238th overall and is another from Maryland.

If Tripp commits and with the Nittany Lions still in it with some other highly-touted prospects, it seems likely Penn State will sign more than 15 “blue-chip” prospects and there’s no doubt this class is one of the best of Franklin’s tenure.

But what does it all mean going forward?
