He is starting to become a household name, but if you are not familiar with Nevada quarterback Carson Strong, I suggest getting to know him before he becomes a first-round pick in next April’s NFL draft.

Strong is responsible for running one of the most high-powered passing attacks in the country and the Wolf Pack are hoping that behind him, they can challenge San Jose State and Boise State for the conference crown and possibly a New Year’s Six birth.

Nevada football has been trying to recapture the glory days of when Chris Ault was roaming the sidelines, but they have been unsuccessful thus far. Jay Norvell has had the most success since Ault retired for the last time, but the Wolf Pack have still not been able to breakthrough. Heading into Norvell’s fifth season, there is optimism that he has built one of the more complete teams that Nevada has seen recently and this program can finally break through.

If Nevada is going to get to the Mountain West title game, it’s going to have to earn its way there. Nevada has a couple of tough non-conference games versus Cal and Kansas State, who always play tough defense, which could be a problem for the Wolfpack offense.

In the conference, Nevada has a couple of tough road games against perennial conference power Boise State and defending conference champion San Jose State, who is bringing back 20 starters. This Nevada team has a chance to be a consistent top 25 team all season long, but they are going to be challenged to do so.

Nevertheless, this is going to be one of the most entertaining teams to watch and is well worth keeping up with this season.
