The Nebraska football program needs to take a step forward in 2021 and here are three games the Huskers will win with ease along the way.

When it comes to the 2021 Nebraska football schedule, the Huskers made headlines this offseason as the Huskers reportedly talked about moving on from traveling to Oklahoma.

While Nebraska football will renew its rivalry with the Sooners on Sept. 18, which should still be fun, the Huskers are going to have their work cut out for them in Norman.

The Huskers aren’t going to win that game, even though you can make an argument for it being closer than the experts think due to a defense that returns nearly every starter, as well as an offense that is also experienced and brings back a fourth-year starter at quarterback.

The offensive line should be solid and Adrian Martinez is finally due for his breakout season in Lincoln — the one that’s been coming seemingly for three years.

Head coach Scott Frost needs to get the best out of Martinez and this team, which means at the very least, winning 7-8 games and getting to the postseason.

Another .500 season isn’t going to cut it and 6-6 plus a loss in a bowl game would equal 6-7. I doubt that Frost would get fired if that happened, but it would still be disappointing with all the talent Nebraska football has coming back for next season.

Before we get to the three games Nebraska will win by blowout, one game that nearly made the list was the season opener at Illinois. This is going to be a test for how far the Huskers have come this season and against a team with a new head coach (albeit a good one), Nebraska should be able to come out on top.

If the game was at home, I’d feel more confident, because let’s face it: Frost and the Huskers haven’t performed well on the road. I do see that trend changing a little with a season-opening win at Illinois.

However, here are three games Nebraska football will win in blowout fashion.

3. Fordham (Sept. 4 Lincoln)

This was an obvious choice, so obvious I nearly didn’t include it on the list. Yet, the schedule isn’t pretty challenging and while I do think Nebraska is capable of a 7-5 season, there might not be many blowout wins on the horizon.

But the Huskers will blow out Fordham. Nebraska actually drew criticism when it scheduled the game, so Frost and company better take of business, or the backlash won’t be pretty.

And by taking care of business, it means scoring 50-some points and winning by at least 30.
