Although the first two seasons under Brent Brennan were not ideal, a lot of the San Jose State football roster was Ron Caragher’s players and recruits. Brennan has shown over the past two seasons what he is capable of making at San Jose State and might be hearing from Power Five programs sooner rather than later.

After combining for three wins in his first two seasons, Brennan has turned what once was an afterthought into a team that can compete with anyone in the conference. Brennan has made the Spartans a legit threat to win the Mountain West in 2021 behind an experienced quarterback, elite offensive line play, and a defense that brings back a lot of snaps from last year.

San Jose State claimed their first Mountain West title since 2012 after having an undefeated regular season, headlined by a 34-20 win in the Mountain West title game against Boise State. It was the first undefeated regular season in program history, and the least amount of losses as well, with the one defeat coming in the Arizona Bowl against Ball State, 34-13.

Heading into 2021, the Spartans have reloaded with 19 starters returning alongside Brennan and both coordinators.

Here’s a look at the San Jose Spartans offense, defense, and schedule outlook in 2021.
