Pick Analysis. Sept. 4. Fayetteville, Ark.. 1. player. Scouting Report. Rice Owls. 2400

Week 1 against Rice will be a nice warm-up for the Razorbacks heading into their toughest non-conference battle in Week 2.

The Owls finished the 2020 season with a 2-3 record and while they had one of the better defenses in college football, their offense was atrocious. In fact, the Owls finished 107th in total offense and 99th in scoring last year and they return six starters and are forced to figure out the quarterback situation. I don’t see the offense being much better in 2021.

I’m on the Malik Hornsby bandwagon heading into the year, so I’m going with him as QB1 and I think he has a nice coming-out party here.

Final Score: Rice 10, Arkansas 34 (1-0)

“We’re back.”

Those words muttered by Sam Ehlinger a couple of years ago after a New Year’s Six bowl win still haunt Texas fans because the Longhorns have slipped back to mediocrity ever since. The Longhorns are fresh off a 7-3 season and Tom Herman was let go. Steve Sarkisian is in town and he’ll be in charge of turning things around in Austin.

The Longhorns still have plenty of talent despite the coaching change and while I don’t think they’re going to compete for titles in year one under Sarkisian, I think they pick up a big road win here behind the legs of Heisman candidate Bijan Robinson.

Final Score: Texas 30, Arkansas 23 (1-1)
