How will Arizona State football fare in 2021?

  • Sept. 2: Southern Utah (W) – A tune-up game to kick things off.
  • Sept. 11: UNLV (W) – A slightly tougher tune-up game that is easily won.
  • Sept. 18: at BYU (W) – Potential trap game but no Zach Wilson so no problem.
  • Sept. 25: Colorado (W) – Conference opener and Jayden Daniels performs like the star he is.
  • Oct. 2: at UCLA (W) – Great quarterback matchup. This one is close but the ASU defense keeps UCLA under 30.
  • Oct. 8: Stanford (W) – Blowout. What happened to Stanford?
  • Oct. 16: at Utah (L) – Playing the Utes on the road is always tough. First blemish for the Sun Devils.
  • Oct. 30: Washington State (W) – Back on track with another big game by Daniels.
  • Nov. 6: USC (W) – Sun Devils get revenge from 2019 and 2020 losses to Trojans.
  • Nov. 13: at Washington (W) – Tough road game but ASU holds on to their Pac-12 title hopes.
  • Nov. 20: at Oregon State (W) – Late season tune-up game? Maybe.
  • Nov. 27: Arizona (W) – Senior night. Rivalry game. Big win. The trifecta.

Prediction: 11-1, 8-1 Pac-12

Yes, you read that right. The Sun Devils are that good. Could they slip up and finish around the nine to 10-win mark, of course. But something about this Sun Devil team makes me think they could be something special. Maybe it’s their do-it-all quarterback, or maybe it’s their one-two punch run game, or it could be their offensive line, paving the way for the offense to succeed. Or maybe it’s their defense that game plans and makes adjustments like an NFL defense.

Or maybe, it is all of the above.

Forget last year, it was a wash, but no it is time for the Sun Devils to make that jump from pretender to contender. Can Arizona State live up to the hype? Or is the pressure too much for the Sun Devils to handle?
