Zach Wilson revived BYU football in 2020, but he played so well that he forwent his senior season in order to be selected in the top five of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Jets.

Basically, Wilson went from “solid” to “geat” in the span of one season and he went from a mid-round prospect to a top-five pick. His rise in stock was just too much to take a chance on and he was left no choice but to head to the NFL and become the Jets’ latest quarterback project.

So BYU is pretty much cooked now, right? Wrong.

As long as Kalani Sitake is the head coach of the Cougars, they’re going to make some noise. Although they’re not part of a conference and don’t quite have the independent respect of a program like Notre Dame, BYU could still surprise some people and make a push at a New Year’s Six bowl after an 11-1 season in 2020.

Honestly, the Boca Raton Bowl was a slap in the face for the Cougars after going 10-1 during the regular season with a lone loss to red-hot Coastal Carolina on the road. The 2021 season could be a revenge tour, of sorts, for Sitake and Co.

Will BYU have enough offense to run through its tough schedule filled with Power Five foes or will the loss of Wilson just be too much?
