The 2021 season is pivotal for the Nebraska football program and head coach Scott Frost. Here’s a look at how many games the Huskers will win.

Back when Scott Frost was hired as Nebraska football coach, few fans would likely have believed that three seasons later, the Huskers would still be searching for their first winning season under the prodigal son.

Frost knew that the program was going to need a major rebuild and that it wasn’t going to happen overnight. Yet, after building some momentum late in 2020, plus the return of a bunch of veterans, Nebraska football at least has a sense of optimism going into 2021.

But it’s time for Frost, Adrian Martinez, and this program to deliver. Nebraska football will never be what it was under Tom Osborne again, however, the Huskers shouldn’t be irrelevant. There’s no reason this program can’t contend each year in the Big Ten West.

It all starts with getting back to the postseason and Frost doing well enough to move off the hot seat. With that in mind, here are game-by-game predictions for Huskers in 2021.

One nice thing for Nebraska fans is that the Huskers will open the season a week earlier than most teams by traveling to Illinois on the last Saturday in August.

Not only is the game important because it’s a Big-Ten opener, this almost feels like a must-win game for the Huskers if they are going to have the kind of season fans want.

This team is very capable of winning seven or eight games but it starts by winning on the road against Illinois in the opener. The Illini have a new head coach and are undergoing their own transition.

Brandon Peters is back and could add a veteran presence at quarterback, but the Huskers should be able to win this game and I believe they will.

Final: Nebraska 31, Illinois 16 (1-0)
