Baylor football has gotten gut-punch after gut-punch over the past few years with Art Briles being forced out after an NCAA investigation and then Matt Rhule returning the program back to relevance before taking the Carolina Panthers job in the NFL.

Dave Aranda was hired to take over for Rhule when he left for the NFL and it came at a perfect time because he had just won the national title at LSU as defensive coordinator.

The fit seemed to be perfect in Waco because Aranda was one of the best assistants in the country and Baylor needed a younger coach to come in and lead the program for a while. Aranda has plenty of promise as a head coach and while year one didn’t quite go as planned as Baylor finished 2-7 overall, losing 7-of-8 after winning the opener against Kansas.

The Bears are bringing back five starters on the offensive side of the ball and they lose Charlie Brewer who decided to transfer to Utah this offseason. Gerry Bohanon and Jacob Zeno will be duking it out for the starting quarterback job this fall and both bring intrigue as impressive athletes. They’ll have a solid receiving corps to spread the ball out to.

Aranda is on the right track but he’ll have to prove more this season after beating only Kansas and Kansas State last year with four double-digit losses.

What can we expect the Bears to do in 2021?
