After a poor follow up to their national championship, LSU Football is looking to get back to contending in the SEC

Nobody was expecting LSU football to repeat as national champions in 2020, but a 5-5 season that was filled with all kinds of distractions on and off the field was not what most college football fans were thinking.

LSU’s hiring of former assistant Bo Pelini did not go as planned and he was dismissed after one season. LSU is bringing in two new coordinators to try and recapture as much of the 2019 magic as possible and they hope with another top-five recruiting class, the Tigers can return to winning.

You know when there are high expectations at a program when they are just a year removed from winning the national championship and there is talk of the head coach being on the hot seat. That is how dismal LSU football was last season and that is why it was imperative for the head coach Ed Orgeron to make the correct hires this offseason to help fix both sides of the ball.

New offensive coordinator Jake Peetz has coached with former LSU passing game coordinator Joe Brady, the architect of the record-breaking 2019 offense. The hope is that Peetz can get the Tigers closer to that form and not the unbalanced offense from a year ago.

LSU football has two talented QB’s to choose from and a talented receiving corps to help get this offense back to elite status.

The defense decided to go in a different direction with former Minnesota Vikings assistant Daronte Jones as the defensive coordinator.

LSU was atrocious in nearly every way on defense last season and they are going to have to be much better if they hope to contend in the SEC.

The talent is there, but what remains to be seen is if the 2019 season was just a flash in the pan or something this program is consistently capable of.
