SEC Football: The best game of every week of the 2021 season
By Shelbie Warr
Last season, an all-SEC football schedule was a roller coaster ride for everyone involved as Alabama once again was the king of college football.
Now, we are back to a normal schedule and a mostly normal season.
What games will highlight each week?
Week 1: Georgia at Clemson
This choice shouldn’t surprise anyone. Both of these teams have been close to or at the top of the food chain in the past decade and now they face off to see who is going to start the season 1-0.
Will it be the new quarterback at Clemson or the veteran in JT Daniels at Georgia? Will the Bulldogs finally really use those weapons they recruit on both sides of the ball or will Clemson just show that they have reloaded and are ready for another trip to the College Football Playoff?
Honorable Mention: Alabama vs. Miami
This one will be an exciting matchup if you are an Alabama fan, in my opinion. Miami may be a top 15 team right now, but I don’t see them keeping up with a top-five team in the nation.
The Hurricanes have D’Eriq King who is coming back from a pretty heartbreaking knee injury in which he tore his ACL and meniscus during the 2020 Cheeze-It Bowl against Oklahoma State. He is good, but I’m not sure he’s Alabama upset good.
Week 2: Arkansas vs. Texas
This one was a harder choice for me, but as former conference rivals and now future SEC rivals, this matchup has some underlying pizzaz that many aren’t giving it.
When they were conference rivals, from 1915-1991, the overall record was 46-19 favoring the Longhorns. Things will likely continue on that track for this Week 2 matchup, but the Razorbacks could change the thoughts surrounding this team if they could pull out a win at home against the Longhorns.
Honorable Mention: Missouri at Kentucky
This one kicks off the conference play part of the season and we will see if Missouri and Connor Bazelak are as good as people think they might be and if Kentucky is a fraud or if the hype surrounding the Wildcats is real.
