UCF Football: 3 takeaways from epic comeback win vs. Boise State
After just one quarter, I was ready to throw in the towel for UCF football. The Knights’ offense looked lost ever since Dillon Gabriel threw a pick-six in the end zone early in the first quarter and the Broncos built a 21-0 lead and didn’t look to be slowing down.
The Knights’ defense couldn’t get any big stops as Hank Bachmeier was converting just about every big throw and lead the Broncos down the field with ease.
And then something clicked midway through the second quarter as UCF stormed back to pull within 10 at halftime and then three just minutes into the second half. Then the Knights took a lead later in the third quarter on a beautiful throw and catch by Gabriel to Jaylon Robinson.
The game went back-and-forth throughout the rest of the game and this became the instant classic we all expected.
UCF took a late lead after a Boise State answer and then held on to win big at the Bounce House.
What did we learn from the Knights’ big comeback win?
3. Jaylon Robinson is a freak
While it was fun watching Dillon Gabriel get into the groove in the second, third, and fourth quarters, for the most part, Jaylon Robinson’s performance gave me life.
I was wondering when the UCF offense was going to wake up and it did just that midway through the second quarter throughout the remainder of the game and a big reason for that was the talented receiver stepping up and getting open for Gabriel. He was making tough catches and proving to be that deep threat that the offense severely needed.
Robinson made some catches that made me jump out of my seat like his fantastic 21-yard touchdown catch over a Boise State defender in the third quarter to give UCF its first lead or the fourth-quarter grab on a late drive when he jumped up to make a big catch and was the victim of a targeting hit yet still held onto the ball.
The junior receiver showed just why he was considered one of the best Group of Five receivers with his 140-yard performance on Thursday night.
