UCF Football: 3 takeaways from epic comeback win vs. Boise State
1. UCF showed fantastic resilience
It would have been so easy for UCF to just fold into the fetal position and let Boise State just run away with a win to start the 2021 season, but that’s not what Gus Malzahn and the Knights waited all offseason for. They didn’t suffer through 2020 to get fans back just to put on this type of show in the opener.
Central Florida battled back down 21-0 to make it 24-14 at halftime. And they weren’t done battling there as the Knights scored early in the third quarter, making it 24-21.
Dillon Gabriel hit Jaylon Robinson to put the Knights up 28-24 and then a safety on a poorly snapped punt made it 30-24. Boise State took a lead and UCF answered right back with a touchdown and failed on the 2-point conversion.
Hank Bachmeier and the Broncos were driving with under five minutes left with a chance to take the lead and the defense came up big deep in their own territory, picking off the Boise State quarterback with two minutes left.
UCF could have called it a game early on as nothing was going right, but Gabriel led the offense back and the defense stepped up. Oh, and Isaiah Bowser was a monster all game.
The Knights showed some impressive resilience when just about everyone was ready to write them off.
