Oklahoma football kicked off the 2021 season with a tight 40-35 “road” victory over Tulane. What did we learn?

After a wild and tumultuous offseason for Oklahoma football, it only made sense that the Sooners’ first game matched that energy.

Due to Hurricane Ida, this game was moved from Louisiana to Oklahoma with other concessions being made for Tulane. Our thoughts are with anybody affected by Ida, and we look forward to getting football back in Louisiana in the near future.

For today, we got a very fun first quarter which kicked off with Spencer Rattler throwing an interception on his 2nd pass of the day. Tulane would respond with a touchdown to get their season off to a 7-0 start.

Spencer Rattler did not get rattled by the opening interception, as he would complete his next 13 with this dime to Marvin Mims Jr. being the most impressive of the bunch.

Tulane battled hard and was tied with the Sooners heading into the 2nd quarter. Oklahoma responded by going on a 23-0 run to end the half. In this run, the Sooners’ defense would force Tulane QB Michael Pratt to fumble three times.

The Green Wave would storm back in the 2nd half, cutting the deficit to five points with two minutes in the 4th quarter. Pratt and Tulane’s sound defense made sure the Sooners could not run away with this one.

Tulane even recovered an onside kick with time winding down and had a shot to pull off a major upset. Ultimately, it was too little too late as Oklahoma would close out the victory.

With a wild first game in the books, what did we learn from the Sooners?
