After all HBCU conferences except the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) opted to sit out the 2021 spring season, they all made their return for week one of the fall season.

MEAC football’s return was the most welcome in Week 0 as they showed they were still a force to be reckoned with following the North Carolina Central Eagles’ upset win over the Alcorn State Braves in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge.

The Eagles came into the game as huge underdogs as Alcorn State, who was the only SWAC team that did not play in the spring (Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman were not in the SWAC in the spring).

The Braves had been dominant in the SWAC winning each of the last two conference championship games while North Carolina Central was coming off consecutive seasons finishing with a record below .500.

The win got MEAC fans excited to see more from a conference that many thought was going downhill following the loss of North Carolina A&T to the Big South as well as Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M to the SWAC.

Let’s see how the MEAC did in week one of the season as we take an in-depth look at the games.
