College Football 2021: Winners, losers from Week 2 AP Top 25
Everyone was waiting for the first full Saturday of games in college football and it did not disappoint.
Penn State scored a big conference win on the road against Wisconsin, Alabama blew out Miami and looked ready to defend their title, Iowa took care of Indiana, Texas took care of Louisiana and in the biggest game of the weekend, and Georgia took down Clemson in a defensive showdown.
There were also several upsets throughout the weekend. Washington was beaten by FCS program Montana, East Tennessee State upset Vanderbilt and won the game by 20 points, Northern Illinois took down Georgia Tech in Atlanta, and Nevada beat Cal.
Some top teams also survived close games. Oregon played a closer than expected game against Fresno State and Iowa State only won by one score over Northern Iowa. These teams have huge matchups this Saturday, so it is possible that they were caught looking ahead, but it is worth keeping an eye on.
It is only one weekend of football, but there looks to be some clear separation already among teams. Alabama is the undisputed favorite right now after a dominant 31-point victory over Miami and the Crimson Tide looked just fine, despite having so many new starters on offense and a mostly new offensive coaching staff.
Georgia got the biggest win of the weekend by beating Clemson, but there are questions that the Bulldogs are going to have to face on the offensive end. It is always tempting to overreact to every result that went down over the weekend, but there is still a long way to go.
Here are the winners and losers from the Week 2 AP Top 25.
