5. Marshall Thundering Herd (1-0)

The ‘Herd might have some trouble staying on the watch, and that might have nothing to do with their record at the end of the season. Marshall does not have a Power Five opponent on their schedule and has to run the table, blowing everyone out on the way.

That said, first-year head coach Charles Huff has a good football team. The former Alabama running backs coach has a solid quarterback in Grant Wells and an ornery aggressive defense. If Marshall runs the table and teams in front of them lose a game or two, the ‘Herd could argue.

4. Army Black Knights (1-0)

Army does have two Power Five opponents on its schedule, and defending the triple option is difficult when you only see it once per season. Jeff Monken and the Black Knights looked good against a Georgia State squad projected to be pretty good this season.

How’s this for an efficient passing game; Army had 98 yards and scored two touchdowns on four passes in the game. Their game against Wisconsin in October should be a good one. The Knights likely won’t beat both Wake and Wisconsin, but they could stay around the watch if they get one.
