Big 12 Football: Week 1 Power Rankings
Big 12 football is back off the heels of a successful first Saturday within the conference. Which team shined the most? Which team has ground to make up?
Before we talk about the on-field play of Big 12 football teams, let’s start with the offseason in which the landscape of the conference was drastically altered.
Oklahoma and Texas will be on the move to the SEC. Whether it will be in 2022 or 2025, remains to be seen. The Big 12 will not roll over despite losing their two most powerful schools. The conference will soon add the following teams:
- Cincinnati
- Houston
- BYU
- UCF
And as of this moment, it seems as if the rest of the conference will remain. There were rumors of Kansas and Iowa State approaching the Big Ten. But with the influx of the new teams who have a national presence, it is tough to see any other schools wanting out.
Now that we covered most of the mayhem from this past offseason, let’s start focusing on what matters and that’s the on-field play.
Good news for fans of the conference, Big 12 teams finished 9-1 on the opening week of the year. Kansas State and West Virginia were the only Big 12 schools to play a Power 5 opponent, while Texas was the only team to play a Top 25 team.
We also had a lot of close games spread out throughout the conference. 6 of the 10 games played were decided by 10 points or less. Last year’s participants in the Big 12 Championship game settled their games by a combined 11 points.
Without further ado, this will be your weekly insight to who ranks where within the Big 12 conference.
