Will Week 2 of the college football season be filled with upsets? Here are four teams that are on upset alert.

Welcome to the first “full” Saturday of college football. After 26 games scattered across Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday and even Monday, this week’s loaded slate features just four games on Friday.

Great news because there’s more football than we know what to do with, but bad news because there are only 24 hours in a day.

We usually learn a lot in Week one, but Week two reveals just how much of the prior week was for real. Often times we see good teams turn in awful performances (looking at you, Washington) that sometimes skews what we think of teams.

Take last week: the aforementioned Washington Huskies were so bad I can’t even find the (appropriate) words to describe their loss to FCS Montana.

Washington wasn’t the only FCS upset victim: Tulsa lost to UC Davis, UNLV fell to Eastern Washington UConn lost to Holy Cross and Vanderbilt was hammered by East Tennessee State.

It’s always hard to call an FCS upset because a solid majority of the time, even if an FBS team is bad, the talent discrepancy is usually way too wide.

As for upsets that actually look possible, last week there were four of them with a few dishonorable mentions. Of the official upset alert, none of the four (Oregon, USC, Texas, and Ohio State) favorites lost their games. The other group ended up going 3-5: Clemson, LSU, Illinois, West Virginia, and Wisconsin were unsuccessful.

As a total, we’ll say the favorites are 7-5.
