Nebraska football rebounded from a loss at Illinois with a win over Fordham last week and here are three predictions for the Huskers against Buffalo.

After two weeks of the 2021 season, we still don’t know much about Nebraska football.

The Huskers lost their opening game at Illinois thanks to the kind of mistakes that have doomed Nebraska football in the era of head coach Scott Frost.

Last week, the Huskers rolled against Fordham, although the score was still 10-7 at one point in the second quarter. Nebraska scored 42 unanswered points and won going away.

But that was exactly what Nebraska should have done. Buffalo, the opponent this week at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln also cruised to an easy win over an FCS team, so that’s nothing to write home about.

Buffalo is expected to be one of the better teams in the MAC this season and if the Huskers overlook the Bulls, a loss wouldn’t be that shocking. After all, Nebraska has lost to other non-Power-5 teams at home during the Frost era before.

This Nebraska team should be above that though and here are three predictions for Saturday.

Adrian Martinez builds on Week 1

In the season opener against Illinois, Adrian Martinez wasn’t good enough. There’s no other way to say it. His inaccuracy doomed the Huskers as much as his second-quarter fumble on a sack that was returned for a touchdown.

Last week, Martinez found his rhythm and completed 17 of 23 passes for 254 yards and a touchdown, as well as scoring two rushing touchdowns.

Having a running game helped, but Buffalo will make it harder for Markese Stepp and the Huskers to establish the ground game, which is something Nebraska desperately needs.

Martinez can’t carry the running game every week for the Huskers. He has enough to do with his arm and when he’s the secondary option, that’s ideal.

While Martinez hasn’t been perfect throwing the ball this season, he hasn’t turned it over and that continues Saturday. He’ll complete close to 70 percent of his passes and get three total touchdowns as he builds on the momentum from last week.
