Boise State football had a forgettable opening performance on the road, losing 36-31 to UCF after building a huge lead in the first half. The Broncos built a comfortable lead before Dillon Gabriel and UCF stormed back to take the lead and hold on thanks to a Hank Bachmeier pick in the fourth quarter.

The Broncos will head back home for the first time this season in Week 2, hosting a UTEP team that is 2-0 after beating New Mexico State and Bethune-Cookman.

Will Boise State put that heart-breaking loss to UCF in the rearview mirror and improve to 1-1 on the season?

Let’s get bold ahead of Friday night’s game

3. George Holani returns, rushes for 100 yards

This might be the boldest prediction of all, but I’m reserving it for No. 3 because if George Holani is healthy, he is a walking 100-yard game. That’s a big if, though.

Holani has struggled to stay healthy and his status for Friday’s game seems to still be up in the air just hours before kickoff which isn’t the best sign, but given the struggles that Boise State suffered last weekend on the ground, he needs to be playing.

Cyrus Habibi-Likio didn’t have the best first game in a Boise State uniform and Andrew Van Buren was also ineffective. The Broncos had just 20 rushing yards against UCF which is just not going to cut it and Andy Avalos needs to address that.

Holani will take the field tonight in a pleasant surprise to Boise State fans and he’ll rush for over 100 yards.
