Arkansas Football: 3 takeaways from huge win over No. 15 Texas
An old-school rivalry was center stage on Saturday night as Texas traveled to Fayetteville to face Arkansas football in what looked to be one of the more intriguing battles of the weekend.
To just about everyone’s surprise, the Razorbacks led from start to finish, beating the No. 15 Longhorns in “shocking” fashion even though those who followed them closely this past season and the offseason knew that Arkansas was ready for an upset.
Arkansas fans have to be ecstatic seeing their team relevant again for the first time in what seems like an eternity and as long as Sam Pittman is there, that’s not going to change.
What’d we learn from Arkansas’ big win?
3. This offense has so many weapons
There were some fans worried about KJ Jefferson being named starting quarterback this season, but with the weapons at his disposal, he has had no choice but to succeed through his first two starts.
Arkansas’ offense is just fun to watch, scoring 40 points against what was thought to be a strong Texas defense which held Louisiana in check in Week 1.
The Razorbacks rushed for 333 yards and averaged 7.1 yards per carry against Texas and picked up Jefferson who didn’t have the best day through the air although he did pass for 138 yards on 14-of-19 completions.
When you have Trelon Smith, the legs of Jefferson, AJ Green, Raheim Sanders, Dominique Johnson, Treylon Burks, and Warren Thompson, the offense has no choice but to succeed under the first-year starting quarterback.
