Georgia football: RGIII foolishly tries to create a Bulldogs QB controversy
The Georgia football team is rolling over UAB in their Week 2 matchup, but that didn’t stop former Heisman-winning quarterback Robert Griffin III from trying to get under the skin of Georgia fans.
With JT Daniels temporarily on the shelf with a mild oblique injury, former starter Stetson Bennett got the nod for the Dawgs today.
The Blazers aren’t quite the nemesis defensively for the Bulldogs that Clemson was in the huge Week 1 matchup, and Bennett has taken advantage of that, going 8 of 9 for 269 yards and five touchdowns in the first half.
That’s exactly what Kirby Smart wanted, to have a quarterback who would step on the turf at Dooley Field and keep Georgia looking like the No. 2 team in the nation.
Nothing more, nothing less.
Georgia football fans not happy with RGIII
However, after the fast start by Bennett, RGII — who was doing color analysis for ESPN in the game — waxed philosophically that Kirby Smart might have a quarterback controversy on his hands.
If there’s one thing Georgia fans know about Kirby Smart is that unless it’s a season-ending or debilitating injury, he sticks with the guy he named as the starter (just ask Justin Fields).
The Bulldog Nation was quick to react to Griffin’s gaffe.
Safe to say the fans aren’t buying into this “controversy” and I’m sure if it’s brought up in the postgame press conference, Kirby Smart will have a good laugh.
Maybe there’s a broadcaster controversy in the ESPN college football booth. Watch out, RGIII.
