Georgia football was without its starting quarterback against UAB on Saturday, but it did not matter one bit. UAB came into Athens hoping to show some fight, but the Bulldogs’ defense shut down the Blazers’ offense and the Georgia passing attack was dominant.

This was a great victory over a better opponent than most people think.

Stetson Bennett IV got the start under center for Georgia on Saturday and that came as a surprise to some Bulldog fans. It was rumored that former four-star recruit Carson Beck was going to get the start on Saturday, but he played sparingly and it was Bennett IV and the passing attack that stole the show. Bennett was a part-time starter for Georgia last season before JT Daniels took over at the end of the year.

Bennet IV was criticized heavily by Georgia fans for not being able to push the ball down the field and he took a lot of the blame for losses to Alabama and Florida. He stepped in and was great with Daniels out with an injury and showed that he can be relied upon while Daniels gets healthy.

The other major storyline in this game was the performance of the defense. Georgia put the clamps on Clemson a week ago and UAB did not stand a chance to move the ball on the Bulldogs. The pass rush picked up right where they left off last week and owned the line of scrimmage against the Blazers.

This was a great performance and Georgia will look to keep things going at home next week against SEC East rival South Carolina.

Here are the three takeaways from the Bulldogs’ victory over UAB.
