Mississippi State football picked up a week two win in “Stark-Vegas” amongst their fans and cowbells on Saturday night against NC State with a final score of 24-10.

Coach Mike Leach’s Bulldogs played a well-rounded game on both offense and defense and took down a very solid NC State team.

Here are a couple takeaways from the game tonight.

3. Will Rogers sparked the Bulldog offense

Mike Leach is known for his patented Air Raid offense, and his system immediately created a buzz in the SEC when he helped Mississippi State football defeat the then defending national champion LSU. His quarterback KJ Costello had a record 623 passing yards in that game.

Tonight, sophomore Will Rogers didn’t quite have those numbers, but he did go 33-of-49 on the night with 294 yards and two touchdowns.

The Mississippi State receivers were led by Dillon Johnson, who had six catches for 70 yards, and Jade Walley who had five catches for 44 yards and a touchdown. Like most Air Raid offenses, there wasn’t much of a run game, as the Bulldogs only rushed for 22 yards on just 15 carries.

With their passing game, Mississippi State could prove to be a challenge to some teams in the SEC this season.
