Texas Football: 3 takeaways from disappointing loss to Arkansas
From the Southwest Conference to the Southeast Conference, these two teams are no stranger to the other. Texas football faced off with the Razorbacks to rekindle an old rivalry from the SWC. This game was also a preview for what is to come for many years, with Texas heading to the SEC in the near future.
It was not the welcoming Texas was hoping for, as Arkansas controlled this game from start to finish.
Texas did keep the score relatively close, cutting the deficit to nine points early in the third quarter. The Razorbacks would then respond with 17 points in just six and a half minutes to put this game out of reach.
The Longhorns were never able to get it going offensively, which led to freshman quarterback Hudson Card to be benched towards the end of the third quarter. Card was not able to stretch the field and was inefficient on third down.
The damage was done when Casey Thompson took over. But, the junior from Oklahoma City showed promise as a runner and led the Longhorns on their only drive to go for more than 50 yards.
Bijan Robinson only averaged 3.6 yards per carry in this game after averaging 5.2 last week against Louisiana.
Defensively, it was not much better for Texas. Arkansas featured a diverse rushing attack with five different players getting at least five carries. These players combined for 333 yards and three touchdowns on 47 carries.
It was a crushing road loss for this Texas team, but what did we learn about the 2021 Longhorns?
