1. Is there a quarterback controversy?

Whether Steve Sarkisian likes it or not, he is staring down many conversations about who his starting quarterback will be.

Hudson Card was the talk of the town after last week, but his inability to stretch the field put Texas in a hole on Saturday night.

Casey Thompson came in for two drives at the end, and led the Longhorns to touchdowns both times. To be fair, Thompson was working mop up duty while Card had to deal with high pressure situations.

A key factor in this debate will be the experience of both players. Thompson has not started a game, but has played in nine games in three years. Card is still a freshman and may need more time to adjust to the speed of the college game.

Sarkisian has time to get back to the drawing board, as Rice will be the next team on the schedule. We could potentially see both players get significant time during that game.

That will make a decision about who the quarterback is going forward easier by the time they get to play Texas Tech for their first conference game of the year.
