Week 2 of the college football season is in the books and before we moved ahead, here’s a look at five things we learned from this past week.

It was another consequential weekend of college football as Week 2 of the season brought us another big-time matchup with playoff implications.

In Week 1, it was Georgia and Clemson. This past Saturday, it was the early meeting between Oregon football and Ohio State.

The Buckeyes were ranked third in the AP poll coming in, while the Ducks were ranked 12th. It was a non-conference matchup with massive playoff implications and that’s where we start with what we learned from a wild week of college football.

Oregon football is a playoff frontrunner

Oregon was already a college football playoff contender coming into the season but on Saturday with its win at the Shoe, the Ducks control their own destiny.

That was always going to be the case for whoever won the game Saturday. Ohio State probably still controls its destiny because the Big Ten gets more respect than the Pac-12, but now that Oregon football has a marquee non-conference win, it’s just gotta keep winning.

A loss would throw a wrench into the mix but here’s a thought: What if Oregon as the Pac-12 champion and Ohio State as the Big Ten champ are vying for a final playoff spot? Head-to-head should decide things and that’s a big feather in the cap of the Ducks right now.

That win is also going to be more impressive than anything Clemson can do in the ACC, so Oregon could even afford a loss (a close one to the right team) and still make the playoff in December.
