Texas A&M Football: 3 hot takes from close, last-minute win vs. Colorado

2. This defense is championship-ready when its on
Texas A&M football struggled defensively against Kent State, allowing 226 yards on the ground and 110 through the air. Despite two interceptions by Leon O’Neal, many players — O’Neal included — felt that they did not do enough to be the best defense in the SEC or in the nation- something they think that they can be.
Against Colorado, the Aggies allowed 171 yards on the ground and 89 through the air. However, after being outgained 108-18 in the first quarter, the Aggies held a 271-152 advantage in total yards throughout the rest of the game. They allowed only 54 yards in the second half, stopping Colorado from adding any points after a first-quarter touchdown.
Antonio Johnson and Jayden Peevy were absolute stars for the Aggies. Johnson finished with 9 total tackles, all solo, and many of those in the open field. Jayden Peevy — the super senior — finished with seven tackles, two tackles for loss, a pass break up, and an interception.
Simply put, the defense kept the Aggies in this game and helped the win happen, especially with the huge fourth-down stop at the goal line in the second quarter to keep it at 7-0.
This defense is championship-caliber when its on like it was in the second half against Colorado. If the Aggies make the Playoff, it will be because of this defense.
