Heisman Candidate No.2: Spencer Ratter, OB, Oklahoma

For the second week in a row, Spencer Rattler occupies the No. 2 spot in our Heisman rankings. He had a stellar performance against Western Carolina but it was Western Carolina.

In that kind of game, the only thing a Heisman trophy contender can really do is screw things up. Oklahoma is expected to pummel Western Carolina, so Rattler isn’t going to get much credit for completing 20-of-26 passes for 243 yards and throwing five touchdowns, even if that’s an impressive stat line.

But, Rattler did look sharp, at least sharper than he did in the opener against Tulane, where he threw for over 300 yards and had two scores, but also tossed two interceptions.

This week, Rattler and the Sooners will face old Big-8/Big-12 rival Nebraska in Norman. The Huskers are still in the midst of their rebuild but are still a big name and plenty of people will tune in to watch them and OU do battle on Saturday.

Rattler isn’t going to win the Heisman against Nebraska, he has to perform in big games down the road to do that, but he can’t falter and if he does something spectacular, voters will see it.
