Notre Dame football has a loaded 2022 recruiting class but it looks like the Fighting Irish will be losing at least one commitment soon.

The Notre Dame football team has started the 2021 season a little shaky. The Irish are 2-0 but wins against Florida State and Toledo haven’t been easy.

However, the Irish are unscathed at this point and one great thing about Notre Dame football’s recent run of success, as well as a playoff berth last season, the Irish are recruiting, at a very high level.

Notre Dame football currently has the second-ranked recruiting class in 2022 according to the 247 sports team rankings and it’s a class that includes 16 four-star recruits according to the 247 sports composite rankings.

What’s really impressive about the class is that it has 21 total commitments and a blue-chip ratio of 76 percent (percent of four-star recruits in the class).

Of course, the Irish could be losing a commitment soon and it’s also possible that will cause the Irish’s blue-chip ratio to improve.

That’s because Michigan football is poised to flip three-star Notre Dame pledge Amorion Walker. Walker is 6-foot-4, 175 pounds, and he’s got the ability to play both wide receiver and defensive back.

Yet, Walker was on campus for Michigan football’s win over Washington last weekend and since then, he’s started trending to the Wolverines as three different recruiting experts from The Michigan Insider have now projected him to flip with a confidence level of six on a scale of 1-10.

Sam Webb, Steve Lorenz, and Brice Marich have all projected that Walker, who is from Louisiana will flip to the Wolverines, who want him to play defensive back.

Michigan has a key need at the position and the Wolverines have made a strong push in the past two months. U-M hosted him for its recruiting BBQ in July and again last Saturday.

What does it mean for Notre Dame football?

Walker is ranked 542 overall in the 2022 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings which also makes him Notre Dame’s lowest-ranked commitment.

That doesn’t mean that Walker won’t be a solid player but the Irish still have tons of high-level commitments including 12 that are ranked in the top 250.

The Irish also have multiple wide receivers and defensive backs in the class, so while Walker is a talented prospect, fans don’t have to worry about the 2022 class.

And in fact, the blue-chip ratio will go up, plus there are still some high-level targets on the board.
