“Stay proud, Tigers fans.”

That’s the message University of Memphis President David Rudd told the Memphis faithful after learning the American Conference school would not be receiving an invite to join the Big 12 Conference last week.

The Memphis Tigers are a dangerous team right now, playing with a city-sized chip on their shoulders since getting spurned by the Power Five conference. The Tigers hope to make the Big 12 experience a little buyer’s remorse if they can pull off the upset against Mississippi State football in Week 3.

Memphis will have a national audience tuning in to see if they can pull off such a feat. The Mississippi State Bulldogs (2-0) travel to Memphis to take on the Tigers (2-0) Sept. 18 at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN 2.

Let’s take a look now at three bold predictions for what should be a scoring bonanza between these two teams.

3. This will turn into a shootout

Through just two games this season, the Tigers have scored 97 points while Mississippi State has put up 59 points.

Mississippi State sophomore quarterback Will Rogers is completing 75 percent of his passes this season (72-of-96 completions), good enough to be the fifth-most accurate quarterback in the country through two games.

Look for Rogers to have a really good game with cheers from friends and family who will likely be making the short 3-hour drive from his hometown Brandon, Miss., to Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis.
